  1.  · Smoke and Mirrors is a tribute album of sorts, though it is comprised primarily of Martin Simpson's original compositions. The record is dedicated to the memory of Big Joe Williams and, as explained in the liner notes, represents Simpson's own year anniversary of playing the blues. The guitar playing is, naturally, exemplary, with Simpson's clear, bell-like acoustic tone thankfully at the /10(5).
